When I first came across the promo image for this figure of Misao Minakami (Asura Cryin’), I thought it was really cute. Sadly I hadn’t seen the anime, and the price tag ($120 MSRP) at the time kept me from making the purchase. So it came as a surprise when Rightstuf had it as a daily deal, so I picked it up for around $65. Now that she is finally in, was she worth the purchase or not?
I would have to say I am pleased with the purchase, but glad I got her at a discount price. The quality of Misao herself is very good, and she has that facial expression always makes me chuckle. I like the fact that you can pose her as going through the wall, or you can pose her on a separate stand. They also include an extra skirt piece to use while in this pose. The extra skirt piece can be a bit of a pain to snap together once you get it on her.
Sadly, the figure is sturdier with the separate stand, than when you have her setup to appear as if she is going through the wall. The reason I say this, is because the wall piece doesn’t just connect to the stand and sit still. It has the tendency to spin around when moved or touched, which is annoying. Once the figure is setup for viewing, it of course doesn’t have this problem until you attempt to move it again. So it isn’t a huge deal, but I did find myself kind of irked by the fact they didn’t create it with the wall able to properly sit still.
Overall this is a very nice figure, but not a must buy in my opinion. If you can get a good deal, such as I did, then I would say she is definitely a nice pickup. I’m glad she is in my collection, and I’m sure she will make an interesting conversation piece. You can see various images of her below.

I.. I have no comment… It’s weirdly disturbing. Is she phasing through the wall? I don’t get it. At first I thought she was in the stockades or something.
@mhatter: in the anime she is a spirit/ghost. So it’s basically portraying her as she passes through a wall.
Very nice figure, glad some of that PS3 money helped you get it.
Also, a few up-skirt shots. Kawaii ^_^
I felt the same way about the fig. At 120$ it was a bit much. 65$ = SWEET!!!
Didnt know rightstuf did figures too. May have to subscribe to thier twitter acct to catch those deals.
Another nice get though
I thought it was a new type of glory hole for a second.
Anyway, thanks for the advice on the Prinny search. I picked up a plushie, sadly the T-Shirts were out of stock. I just hope our rottie doesn’t notice the Prinny, he’s got a stuffie collection that rivals your figurine collection
Thats an interesting figure there lol
I don’t think I’ve ever paid over $20 for a figure before. $65 can buy a good sum of anime or a new game, so IMO I would have passed on it and waited until the price dropped much lower. I’m glad you like it though.
@Bustercube: You can’t usually wait for price drops on figures. They are usually limited runs and that is it. My highest priced figures are probably around $120
I like all the angle shots you took of the figure. Very professional.
Man, these figures have some crazy prizes. It’s nice that you got it at a discount and that you’re happy with it.
I’ve thought about picking up some figures from some of my favorite shows, but then I remember that I hardly have enough space for the stuff I already have.
I’ve seen pictures of that figure before, its a cool way to do a ghostly figure. I didn’t know rightstuf put figures in deal of the day. I’m on a figure buying kick myself at the moment, although I am trying to restrict it to my favorite series rather than series I don’t know about/have seen. Gotta restrict what I am buying in some way. Twitter: gricomet
OMG KAWAII!!!
Okay, now that I got that out of my system, I find it quite funny that you can put her through a wall. Haven’t watched this Anime, but the fact that she’s supposed to be a ghost makes more sense for putting the wall, and is a very innovative way to portray that. Though, the wall thing made me think the character was able to teleport or possibly flew really fast and got stuck halfway through a wall at some point.
This is very cool the detail on some of these figurine’s are quite uncanny kind of McFarlane meets Anime. Though sadly I haven’t seen any of the anime for this either but I’ll definitely have to check it out. I’ll be at Dragoncon this weekend and I’m looking forward to seeing what the vendors have there.
I personally don’t like it much… I just can’t explain as to why though. Sure, it has it’s points, but it just doesn’t stand out all that much. It’s missing something to be honest.
I’m guessing you have her displayed backwards don’t you?
I was about to ask about the “through the wall” thing but now it makes sense if she’s a spirit. Kind of a weird position she’s in for a figurine imo. But that could be because I haven’t watched the series.
Wow, I didn’t realize rightstuf put figures on their daily deals. I haven’t seen Asura Cryin’ yet, but I’m not so sure this figure would be for me. At least not at $65. I did, however, just make my preorder for K-On nendoroid petit blind boxes, and I picked up a Black Rock Shooter figma while I was at it.

haha, I see London, I see France, I see Misao Minakami’s underpants!
The second season of this anime is way better than the first. I guess because you actually start to understand the story.
just checked out your entire my figure collection and its very impressive. I like your Ryomou and Yutaka ones the best. I dont have too many figures except a couple of nice Mai Otome ones and 4 out of 5 Lucky Star figures from a set– oddly enough the Akira one is missing ;p
I completely forgot about this series. Got to know about it years ago, but it fell to oblivion my memory bank. It’s not that I didn’t find the series fun. It’s that when you juggle w/ a bunch of matters, stuff like this unfortunately becomes forgotten.
Glad to know that you got it for about half. I’d pay $100 for a figurine if you can’t find it anymore and it’s good. I try not to though.
@Bustercube: I’d like to know where you get your figurines. The least I’ve payed for is maybe $25 or so? That should be right. (As happy as I am with that figurine, there is one reason why I regret on buying it and the reason is because there’s no way to keep it balanced.)
Like what Mike said, you can’t wait for a price drop. Figurines come in limited runs. Just about every figurine that I own is now no longer being made and they’re flat out hard to find.
Unless you have connections and sources, good luck finding various figurines. Even if a figurine is in stock and legit (can’t forget the word “legit”), good luck finding one for a low price. The best deal I ever got was paying $30 for the Good Smile “School Rumble” Eri figurine. I’m pretty sure I will never run into another figurine deal like that again.
